Visakhapatnam: Sankar Foundation, a reputed eye care hospital at Naidutota, Visakhapatnam is launching “family glaucoma screening programme” on Sunday for treating all the family members of identified glaucoma patients in the north coastal districts of Andhra Pradesh.
The programme will continue on the last Sunday of every month in the hospital. Glaucoma is a “silent thief of sight” and progressive and irreversible condition and early detection and management are of utmost importance to slow or prevent vision loss, according to Dr T Raveendra, a specialist of glaucoma at Sankar Foundation Eye Hospital here.
He highlighted the importance of early detection and treatment of the disease to prevent vision loss and said that first degree family members are at much higher risk of developing glaucoma.
